Performing Arts +
Community Service

Performers for Progress is a student-driven performing arts and community service program. Fondly know as “Perforpro,” the program empowers teens to drive community impact through artistic expression.

  • Performing Arts

As arts programs are cut from schools, Performers for Progress is about empowering students to create their own forums for creative expression.

  • Community Service

Through the Performers for Progress model, socially conscious teens produce performing arts showcases to raise funds and awareness for social issues.

  • Leadership & Community

In this experiential learning lab, students develop and practice the leadership skills necessary to lead creative, inclusive, and innovative teams.

How it works

The program is led each year by two student producers who engage their peers in co-creating one or more annual performing arts showcases. Students audition their self-directed acts in dance, music, comedy, and other performing arts. Together, the students manage all creative and logistical details to produce a “cabaret night” meets “variety show” talent showcase.

For each performance, the students select a nonprofit partner that’s addressing a social issue they care about. In partnership with that nonprofit beneficiary, the students leverage their performance platform to raise community awareness about the issue while simultaneously raising funds for the organization through ticket sales and additional donations.

During the rehearsal process, students may also choose to engage in volunteer activities with the nonprofit partner, and many remain engaged with their nonprofit beyond the show.

Performers for Progress is currently based out of Miramonte High School in Orinda, CA. If you’re interested in starting a branch in your community, reach out to learn more.
